Ruth presents her way which is very nice after you get your garden up and running. I used to be a "Troy-bilt gardener" and have gone to no-till and raised bed organic gardening. After 2 years, the yields are very good and will get better! Soil tilth is improved with minimal work and topical application of hay and compost. After planting watch it grow! She describes a nice rotation of strawberries, corn and potatoes. My raised beds keep it near. And minimal watering is needed due to the thick mulch. Slugs were a problem this year, but there are ways to deal with those rascals! If zoning allows, you could fence the garden and put a few ducks in there for insect control. The organic approach has done wonders for the bees and other beneficial insects. There was not one tomato hornworm this year. Early and late blight were minimal next to my neighbor who's tomatoes were decimated. When applied with observation and forethought, I feel these techniques are fun and helpful. Thank you.
